What does a CMM have to do with hand sanitizer?
In March 2020 hand sanitizer products saw a 300% increase in sales. To meet that demand, a well-established Ohio company was prepared by expanding their hiring process and the use of their four Zeiss metrology systems in a 24/7 production. What does a Zeiss CMM have to do with hand sanitizer? It’s all in the delivery.
Dispensers include small squeeze bottles, refill cartridges for dispensers, as well as common pumps. And that packaging needs to be defect free. Small springs, caps, tubes, threads, seals and balls have to assemble and work together to prevent leakage during transit and expel product upon demand. In-process inspection as well as incoming inspection of supplier material can be managed with Zeiss CMMs and ProLink software.
The common CMM software platform, ZEISS Calypso, enables sharing programs between in-house measuring machines and suppliers. And the common ZEISS VAST probe sensor enables inspectors to scan surfaces for better definition which enables them to have a more detailed dimensional evaluation.
And what happens with all the measurement data? QC-Calc from ProLink will organize production measurements into management reports for process control; tool wear, temperature and material variances, press cycle time and handling / packing procedures.
In addition to traditional statistical reporting capabilities, QC-Calc has a rich source of first article inspection report templates and Gage R&R functions. So, ProLink products can be used for first piece inspections, tool qualification, and supplier approvals.
If you need to prepare for the unexpected, remember it’s all in the delivery. You can count on Inspection Engineering to deliver professional advice and complete measurement solutions.
